Delete function

We have so many items in the back office that are no longer needed and bike suppliers changing the codes and the old seasons never to be used again. Would it not make more sense to be able to delete the items to free up server space? Also, when we initially set up we had over 2,000 items added manually, this means they aren't linked to auto sim and we have realised the manufacturers info like increased cost prices aren't being updated so we are still using old cost prices so we are selling at a loss. We can't auto sim the product as it says already in our database, so won't override it. The solution given to us was to go into each item, change the look up code save it them auto sim the product again, a simple delete function would be far better and less time consuming don't you agree?

We have items that were imported via SIM, but never stocked or sold in our store, it would be good to erase them from our database.

Permanently Delete an Item
Toby K Selph Arnett
I would like a button to permanently delete an item.
I need to delete item: BK240024BK 52V V2 LATCH FOLDING CARMINE RED FRAME. It was brought over from the old POS. It is a mistake. It's wrong. None were sold. I don't need the history. I just need it permanently deleted.
We need the ability to permanently delete an item when there is no history. There's no reason to save it in history. And merging is always a risky endeavor because I'm never quite sure the history of the good item will be preserved. Merging just introduces a risk for an even greater mistake.
Please make it easier for us to permanently delete an item when we absolutely know that we don't need to save any history.
I see you have another post with 60 votes for the same thing. "Allow Delete Item if no sales history."

Absolutely we need this! Why can't we delete an item if it's never been sold, so therefore, doesn't need to be retained for history.

Neil McQuillan, how are you getting on with this?

Cara Alford Bethel Street You are both spot on here, we don't allow delete in case there are any sales, open purchase orders for the item or item movement records - stock take, off line inventory etc. Marking an item as inactive has the same effect but allows us not to mess up reporting.
You can also alter the name and barcodes of an item if it's just been created in error, but marking as inactive achieves the same effect, so that is likely simpler.

When under the item info there is a button with a check mark that says "active", if you uncheck that box putting the item into "inactive" mode this is essentially the same function of making it not visible but also not completely deleting it out of your system.

I agree with the delete function but you don't want to loose past customer records of purchasing that item. So I believe the delete function should exist but only on items that have never had any purchasing history.

I would like to have the option to be able to delete items. I want to change things on the website but this means clutter in the back office.

I've imported two "Matrix parents" from SIM today, that are unpopulated, they're also not Matrix items, so I can't even add the child products in. I know have two more ILCs that are surplus to requirements and just bunging up search results.
Deletion or archiving would be really useful.
