Automatically deactivate item once stock runs out.

Is there any reason why an Inactive item can't remain active whilst there is stock. In other words, an item could be made inactive at any time and would stay visible as long as there is stock. This would mean that when an item has been made obsolete from the supplier, I could immediately go to that item and make it inactive and effectively forget about it, safe in the knowledge that once the stock sells through, it will deactive itself.
Currently, the only way I can manage it is to reduce the restock points to the minimum and when it eventually goes out of stock it will get flagged on the PO to reorder at which point I am reminded to deactivate it. It works but it's a bit clunky.

This would be good as an option on seasonal products. We have core products which will go in an and out of stock, but seasonal items are gone once they're gone. Would be good to have an option if they could become inactive as soon as they are sold through.

I run two item update wizards every day to:
1/ Select 'Do not place on purchase order'= Ticked & Stock= 0 which I then make inactive.
2/ Identify Inactive with stock (picks up returns of inactive lines) which I then reactivate.
I use the filter builder at the bottom of the wizard to tweak the settings a bit. The Obsolete at supplier option is not available in the wizards which is why we use the Do not place on purchase order to help us identify lines we don't want staff ordering for whatever reason.

Stefan Moody: Bumping this as I think it would be very helpful feature for many. I appreciate your input however I would prefer not to have to run daily wizards. As Mary has said, once a product range has come to the end of the season ie it is no longer available, or I am just no longer going to stock an item, it would be great to just be able to mark it inactive, whether or not there is stock available and when the stock runs to zero, it automatically becomes inactive. Means i don't have to keep monitoring it and wait for the stock to sell through until I can deactivate it.

Info: Hi,
Couldn't agree more! The reason I have to run both of those wizards every day is for precisely the reasons you have both mentioned. It is a workaround because there is no other option at present.
We have lots of End Of Line items that we need to disappear from our website (and the pesky ordering fingers of staff!) as soon as stock runs out. Wizard 1/ copes with this.
When inactive lines are returned (wrong size/ordering error etc) we need them to be immediately available for sale on our website again. Wizard 2/ for this.
I can't think of any reason why the current 'Inactive' option shouldn't auto-switch depending on whether stock is available.
Mark ILC as Inactive.
1/ If stock is showing the ILC still shows on websites and standard till searches.
2/ As soon as stock reaches zero it becomes fully Inactive and is removed from website etc.
3/ If stock value increases above zero for any reason (returns, stocktake etc) the ILC reappears on websites and tills.
One complication is with supplier stock feeds that show items as available on websites. This could be overwritten by the Do Not Order option perhaps...
I'd love to see this implemented. Two fewer tedious and repetitive daily tasks to do!
