We would like quotes to function strictly as quotes—not as layaways or completed sales. Creating a quote should
not reserve or sequester inventory
.
In our business, many customers request quotes but never return to make a purchase. We keep quotes open for a reasonable period so we can honor the pricing if the customer does come back. However, if the customer never returns, the quote is simply forgotten.
The problem is that the quote continues to reserve the merchandise. Later, when another customer is ready to purchase that same bike, the POS prevents the sale because the inventory has been tied up by an old quote. At that point, we have to stop what we're doing, investigate why the inventory is unavailable, locate the old quote, and manually release the reservation.
This creates unnecessary delays, interrupts the sales process, and adds avoidable confusion for both our staff and our customers.
Requested Change:
* Quotes should
not reserve inventory
by default.
* Inventory should only be reserved when a sale is completed or when a specific reservation/layaway feature is used.
* This change would better reflect how quotes are used in the real world while preventing unnecessary inventory conflicts and improving workflow efficiency.
