Search all catalogs when using SIM in POs

Allow for the import of items from a different catalog by expanding search capabilities to include UPCs and manufacturer's part numbers. This will save us the time of finding a vendor who has this in their SIM, importing it, and then adding the item to the original vendor while creating a PO.
Example - Shimano's SIM catalog is not fully complete. QBP has many of the items missing and are available thru their SIM.
Additionally, add all vendors (with whom we have relationships) with matching UPC data to the item card.

Would this mean that best practice for searching items would be a UPC?

Hi Brent,
We're going to change the way the SIM search works in Purchase Orders.
At the moment, we only return items we "know" to be available from the supplier for the PO - in the example you provided the item isn't currently in our SIM feed for Shimano (this is being looked into), so it's not returned.
I'm going to change this, so the search will just be across all of our available vendors.
Here's a video of this working with the example you sent over https://www.loom.com/share/64e8506cb15b4e27b8be1b3a667fa74a
In this, I'm creating a PO for Shimano and enter the UPC for the item - this is found from the QBP data we have and allows you to add the item, after it's added you can quickly add Shimano as a supplier and set the vendors part code (Y0CA98010) against it.
This will be live as of the 6th May.
Thanks,
Suzy

I've discussed this with Suzy the Head of the POS Development team and we are going to make this change for US retailers, so if its in SIM it can be added to any purchase order. It's caught us on the bounce that the Shimano data is a subset of Shimano data in the QBP feed. We have reached out to Shimano to find out why, but we clearly need to adjust our logic here in case this happens with other suppliers.

Hey Brent J - I'll be giving you a call later on today to discuss this in a little more detail!

This is interesting. For some suppliers they insist upon onboarding processes for their retailers before we provide access to the data. They do this to ensure only their legitimate customers have access to their data.
This is why we only allow import on a per supplier basis with the catalogue they have provided. As all our data is sourced from suppliers rather than harvested from other Citrus-Lime customer databases, which is
I think
the way Lightspeed R Series works. As the supplier owns the data we try and be careful where it is used. Maybe we can think more creatively here.
I note in the the replacement for R Series, which is being phased out, the new product X Series does seem to hold some data directly from suppliers, but the catalogue is very limited. There is no restrictions on what you can import however.
I'll have a ponder on this.

Brent J that’s the way that Purchase orders work when searching SIM. I wonder if we can create a more flexible approach, are you looking you import a stack of items or just a few?

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime In a similar vein, when a user has unlimited SIMs, it would also be useful to be able to search all vendors for a brand (we can’t remember them all). In the event that you are not registered for that vendor, at least the system can tell you who stocks it and the user could open a dialogue with them. Could be a selling point for getting more vendors on board with SIM too.

Marc Andrews that gives us an issue as we’re not allowed by some suppliers to show item data unless they approve access. I’ll ponder this maybe we could simply show we have the data, there is a list of all the suppliers we support on the Sim page on our website if you want to add ones you are missing. The quick search in Purchase Orders searches all supplier data where there is a matching part code in the current suppliers data.
