Ability to link specific product under 'You may also like'

Would be useful to be able to link specific products on a product page. An example would be a Specific tent. It would be great if the customer could scroll down to the 'You may also like' section and see the additional footprint, carpet, extension, etc that is designed for that specific tent. I see that this was a feature in the old MT, could this be reinstated? Creating a Facet Collection for every tent we have in our collection is not sustainable, especially when models change every year.

Would be a useful feature if there was a way to specially choose which items pop up for related items. Currently there is only filters so you can't specifically narrow it down to certain items. This would help as if someone is looking at a specific item it could see the full matching set for example.

Hi all,
As this post has been around for some time, I'm keen to hear any 'fresh views' on this. The discussion pre-dates lots of changes to Collections, for example, which speaks to a similar need re. grouping recommended related items together.
We are currently reviewing the Related items functionality for Ecommerce, so if you have any outstanding changes you'd like to see, please let us know here.

Hi Jess M, thanks for raising this topic for discussion.
For now, it's not great news I'm afraid. Our developer road-map is focused on moving current-generation features into Cloud Merchant Tools and a wholesale improvement of our Customer Rewards engine.
For clarity, the feature you're referencing predates Find & Filter and is persisted purely to support customers still using that technology. The downside with this feature was that it did not "fall back" when items were not available.
For example, if I selected 5 related products for product Y and those products go out of stock and are deactivated, then product Y will show 0 related items. Our new feature does a better job of this and, unless you have a genuinely unique item (or one-off) then it's unlikely you'll ever see a product page without related items.
For what it's worth, I feel as though implementing this feature
could
be useful but I'm sceptical on how frequently it may be used (or found to be useful) by our customers. I'm definitely happy to be proven wrong here, though and I'm keen to understand who else would find this useful.I'll mark the topic as under review so it can be revisited at a later date.

Ben Kippax: I think the evidence for this would be a review of the bounce rates on product landing pages. I agree that we need something better to refer to other products and keep customers on site, whether it is exactly as Jess has suggested or not.

Would the shorter term addition of "age" and "gender" be possible to add to the "non-default" related items settings? We have the issue whereby if we have a kids bikes for example we cant display other kids bikes they would potentially be interested in as we can only select department level being "bikes". Same with other items like helmets, kids helmet etc.

Ben Kippax It would also be useful to add product group, gender and age (or at least more detailed filtering) to the Related Items bulk wizards as also though I can individually adjust products to make the related items as relevant as possible, I cant amend them according to the same categories in bulk wizard which makes the bulk wizard fairly redundant unless I want to set a very broad critera, or a smaller product group within a certain price range for example. E.g. if I want to bulk change all womens mountain bikes I have to individually comb through mountain bikes to individually select those that are women.
Hopefully that makes sense, it does in my head...

Pauls Cycles: Generally speaking bounce rates and internal link SEO has improved, resulting in more indexed pages in Google, since the launch of the Find and Filter based related items. This is with the automated linkage of items.

I like this idea Pauls Cycles: but this suggestion is different than that of the Canny topic. To make Canny manageable, if you have a suggestion it needs to be an "atomised" Canny topic.
Ben Kippax
Pauls Cycles: It makes sense, but likewise, this is different to the OP comment, so if you'd like to see this happen, it needs to be a separate Canny issue.

Ben Kippax: Would it be possible to include Find & Filter Custom Repeaters as a way of setting related items in a similar way you can a collection? Find & Filter Custom Repeaters give you more flexibility to set facet filtered products(Kind of what Pauls Cycles were getting at below).
Reading your reply to Jess M. Could you have a hybrid system where you could define up to say three static products in the related items with the standard related items filling out the rest of the options. That way if a static product went out of stock it would just be replaced with the standard related product options. I've done a crude mock-up
