The whole reason for a loyalty scheme is to encourage repeat purchases, which is why loyalty points have an expiry from the date they were earned. I think we need to find a way to block people using loyalty points to buy gift vouchers. In this case, I'm not referring to people who spend £1 or £2 worth of points towards a voucher. But rather people who save their points for an entire year, only to buy a gift voucher with all the points they have accrued. Which technically- yes, it has encouraged them to make a purchase. But in actual fact it is just a way to defer using their points and essentially extend the expiry of loyalty points to another whole year. When I initially raised this, it was a hypothetical... but now we've had several customers take advantage of this loophole. Is there any way we can have a setting on gift vouchers that prevents loyalty points being used to purchase them? I'd be interested to know whether any other retailers have experienced this?
