Star Buy Improvements
complete

We want to start utilising star buys more in our strategy but there are a couple improvements which I think would make it considerably easier to use.
Dashboard – currently there is no way in MT to view all star buys, active or unactive, and be able to edit them, deactivate them etc. – If we’re going to use them more, we’ll need to be able to manage them as well as we can manage everything else in MT.
Facet Filters – when making star buys I know the product on deal is set via facet filters, but the fact that the initial product to purchase to get a deal has to be manually selected is not very useful for making star buys an on-going thing.
For example, if I set up a star buy which is initiated by adding a Carhartt jacket on a current season code, I can select all current Carhartt jackets and make the star buy, however the next week we may upload another 10 carhartt jackets – now these 10 aren’t on the star buy. I’d recommend making both the initial product and the deal product available to set up using both filters AND manual selection, for the sake of versatility.
Cheers!

All,
We've started the process of technical specification for updating StarBuys to be URL-based.
This means that, once the work is complete, you'll be able to setup StarBuy promotions from URL-URL.
e.g. Buy any jacket, get 50% off any hat.
This will mean that you'll no longer need to re-add new items to promotions.
We'll look at providing a greater level of control over the "URL-based assignment" of StarBuys too :)
No ETA as yet but work is well under way and is firmly on our agenda and release plan.

Ben Kippax: Awesome! Thansk for the update, that sound like a great solution.
And then it's on to making it easier to change Facets right? ;)Thanks

That's not on our agenda, but a wholesale look at Find and Filter is! That
may
come hand-in-hand but it's not a definite.I can certainly raise that as a discussion.

Ben Kippax: This sounds ideal and a lot more flexible, thanks for the update!

Well played, Sir.
If it does pop up in your discussions, we did discuss ideas in one of our previous meetings with Lewis in Manchester, I think he has some notes.
We suggested making edits to filters based on an Import Spreadsheet.
This could potentially make it a lot easier to make small and big changes. Even remove the complete structure completely and upload an entirely new one.
You can get everything laid out on a spreadsheet decide what Facets you want on one sheet and then go through each product and set the filters on the spreadsheet. Then import the new FAF structure followed by the product filters. Instead of having to delete and add everything manually in MT.
If there is a post in canny that already exists for this suggestion then let me know and I'll post this there.
All the best,
W

Another suggestion would being able to set what price the Star Buy Offers discount is deducted from, MSRP or Sale price.

Hi All,
In addition to Joey's point, when using Facets to set up star buys, having the ability to go deeper into the FAF attributes and use "browse filters".
The Group Filter Level is the deepest it goes, which is not deep enough.
Example.
At the time of starting this entry our "underwear" is currently a Browser Filter within the Group of "Baselayers". If we want to create a Star Buy for 25% off all underwear with selected trousers, we have to edit our filters and bring "Underwear" out to a Group level filter. Which we all know is a painful process because of how long-winded it is to delete or edit filters.
If we could drill down to browser filter level then this job would have taken the 5 mins it was meant to take.
It took me over 2 hours to find and change everything, including having to call CL Customer Support because of a known glitch still being glitchy.
Glitch:
When you create a facet but instantly want to delete it due to a mistake, you get a message saying, "The facet can't be deleted because it is part of the Facet Navigation". This is impossible because the facet was just created and not applied to anything. We had this issue 3 months ago and again a few months before that, and we were told both times it is a known issue.
I spoke to Roxie, who was a big help. She has raised this glitch to the Dev Team and is also getting someone at CL to look at our site in more detail just to find the incorrect facet and delete it for us.
I know that's a long entry, but I wanted to convey how frustrating Star Buys are due to lack of depth, how hard and long-winded it is to change/delete facets, and how the current glitch all contributes to turning a 5 min job into 2 hours worth of work.

I just wanted to add a comment to this to say that for us, being able to include Collections in the Item to Facet option would be really useful - I had a Star Buy I wanted to set up over Black Friday that ended up being impossible as I couldn't filter any further than Item Group.

Storm.J: I think I raised this before so fingers crossed it happens, collections and star buys work very well together

Ben Kippax: Hey Ben, any update on this bad boy? I added a new comment with more suggestions after having a bit of a battle today.

Good points Joey. If we could use facet filters to set up Star Buys, that would amazing. We're making good money on this, really, really good money (300 extra items in the post in the last 30 days using Star Buys). If we could make it slightly easier to use, we'd make a lot more.

Another update on this:
We want to experiment with offering multiple products on Star Buy - we've been doing our tees but now we want to try tees AND hats.
I created another offer for caps and found that only one star buy can work on an item, which was confirmed by help desk.
Would it be possible to get product collections added as an option into the 'Item to Facet Promotion' section - this would allow us to build a collection for a star buy as opposed to messing around with season codes or something to bodge a specific tee and hat offer.
Cheers!
Also Neil McQuillan regarding previous comment, I'm well happy with the ideas Ben Kippax is on with, it'll make things a lot easier to manage!

Joey,
You've clearly created an excellent idea here, it's popular with our customer base, with one of the highest up vote totals I can remember in such a short period of time, what does everyone make of Ben's suggestions?
Just at a personal level I'm really chuffed with the success you've made of StarBuys, the number of orders with them in the last few months runs into the hundreds!
