Offer “Donate my points balance” option

A customer asked us today to donate their 2.37 of customer rewards points to a charity of our choice, and I thought that was a nice thought. Then I received an email from a supplier offering the same. With all the requests to give us more control over our customer rewards coms which I believe is planned, is this an option that could be implemented? Maybe as per some retailers allow us 3 files to add charity names so the customer can simply select and we can then process?
Customer happy, Charity happy, business happy as it’s a positive thing.

My view on points is that they are a marketing investment to bring customers back and their costs are hopefully covered when a customer orders something and pays partly in points. So not something I would want as they are not "real money", but they are a promotional offer to encourage more sales.

This is really interesting, as something we have considered previously, however I'd just introduce an element of caution. What % of your rewards issued are redeemed? probably about half? Introducing the charity element could see a big uplift in cash out of the business going forwards, let alone if you opened it up to all current outstanding balances. I think behaviour could be very different to Pennies donations where transactions are rounded up at additional cost to the customer. Here it could be seen as a no brainer to donate the pence or a couple of pounds of 'free money' that wont give you much of a discount on your next order, and those could really add up. Not saying it wouldn't be great for the charities we partner with though!
