Make "Collection" an option for a discount codes to target specific items

When creating a discount code, we may wish to target some product from a specific brand, but across multiple categories. To my mind, the solution is create a collection, then create a discount code for that specific collection.
This doesn't appear to be an option at present, or maybe I'm missing a trick?
Please excuse the poor image, attempting to work on a train (poor wifi) and using a trackpad rather than a mouse to write!
Thanks

Coupons - Ability to apply to collections
Shirin Sadr
Can only apply coupons to categories, or specific items. It would be useful to apply coupons to collections so that when you have a promotion (such as black friday), coupons can be applied to a selection of products from different categories, without only being able to apply it to a whole category of products.

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime Ben Allen we really struggle assigning coupon code usage to groups of items in certain campaigns. We have been wanting collections to be added as an option for discount codes for a while but with the imminent release of the new collections features it would be even more powerful! Could you consider this Canny request?
Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime
Ben The new collections piece is due to launch in the September release, this is the kind of thing we can consider once that is live, ping another message when you have a few collections live after the new update.

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime Will do, thanks for the speedy response. Though just to confirm, even without the new collections piece, adding collections as an option for discount code filtering would be useful, it's just the new collection piece is a bonus to it. So one is not tied to the other.
Using collections in discount code filtering would allow us to add a single coupon for a discount on say Jackets + Jumpers. Something that is currently not possible.
Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime
Ben The two are tied, we'll need the new code to implement the discount piece.

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime I see, it was only by coincidence that I mentioned the new collections piece. I had not realised it would be the bit that would make it possible!

I already made this suggestion, so would be good to group voters on to one! :)

Shirin Sadr It would appear that I've already voted that one up, someone from Citrus will probably come along and merge these shortly.

I've just started to use Primary Categories like Neil says. It's a bit of a faff but works as a temporary fix.
Shirin Sadr
Chris I've never had much luck with using primary categories for things (eg. creating groupings for ad feeds) as the categories move themselves around. I'll stay away from that as it sounds like a faff that shouldnt be needed and I use my categories for ad feeds already so I'd be compromising those (that work as they should at least). The option to apply coupons to collections would be the best solution!

Shirin Sadr Fair one. Hopefully they take a look at this soon as this time of year the limitations with promotions is more noticeable.
Shirin Sadr
Chris Certainly is!

This will definitely get added in the future. It's something I'm really keen to see, oddly I was discussing this with a member of the team today and here is the workaround we currently suggest, it's not ideal but might provide a short term solution to the issue.
'Many customers will use Primary Category to create the coupon, and create a collection with the same group of product for the landing page.'

This could be really useful, even more targetted promotions and again hiding discounting from the search engines and reducing the race to the bottom. We need features like this to be able to work smarter.
