Customer Order History “Progress” status doesn't reflect order status

On My Account - Order History, the customer-facing status/progress label does not reflect the true order state. Orders can remain showing “Processing” even after they’ve been dispatched, delivered, or refunded.
The status does update to “Cancelled” correctly.
Is it possible to update the customer-facing progress status so it stays in sync with the order status (and updates shortly after any dispatch/cancel/refund action)?
