this appears to a be a new behaviour change. - if you upload image1.jpg to product a, then upload a different image1.jpg to product B, product a's image shows the new product B.
in the past we were told that this would not be an issue, as images were saved correctly without duplications.. but the new image server seems to not do this?
is it just us?
Could citrus do a bulk update to randomise all image names? or prevent already used image names being uploaded or at least suffixed _1 or even _itemid_1 ?

This was addressed in a previous update by adding sequential numbering to the end of image names when duplicates are detected.

I've just been working through a number of Google Merchant Center errors where Google can't see the image for an item so isn't listing the item. I was quite suprised to see that all the images I have worked through which have the issue have either spaces or commas in the filenames which is considered bad practice.
I was thinking that auto renaming the images to itemid1.jpg, itemid2.jpg would be an idea.

We've not changed the behaviour in this area, its always worked in this manner.
This is good suggestion however, but it would prevent some customers relying on filenames when they want to update images. Does this affect anyone, or is the above change viable?

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime: we have raised a case several times as this is a MEGA issue for us. - multiple items changing image, as NEVER Before, seeming to correspond to when the server. even items caching back to empty images/wrong images/ between cloud pos and cloudmt, and even website presentation.
some thoughts, the URL for images seems to have become uncoupled from the standard structures .
the url structure seen in cloud pos, vs that presented in cloudmt is not consistent? double and single slashes /s/s-l/ anad s/s//s-l
etc.
Have requested an immediate product and all image dump from yourselves, and another performed 24 hours later so we can see what the CL System things the image is, and if this changed overnight.

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime: sorry to recap how can you rely on filenames, this process would be invaluable to us to bulk upload? - was told this was not posisble, and in fact we have to upload 20 identical images to some lines as they all 'Look' the same!!

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime: Having worked with a top google SEO bod in lockdown, image names can be important in accessibility scoring. Effectively the image name becomes the image title of description when there is no alt text. Random naming would destroy this and loose image search indexing.
If one image name is the same as an existing image name then the windows download convention would work well, just add a sequential number to the end of the image name, ideally after a dash, which seems universally effective, brackets and other special characters can be an issue in some browsers.
So on upload, check if the name is unique for that site, if not then add "-" and a sequence number (check that is unique too. I would image this may be a built in feature you coulc use in image upload protocols?

Ally: this is the first time we have been told of this issue, and have historically been told it’s not an issue.
However today images reverted back again.. how do we even start to fix this mess!!
