"Out of Stock" sizes to be presented differently to encourage more restock alert sign ups.

We find that we have to tell a lot of customers that they can set up restock notifications, as the current presentation of Out of stock sizes does not encourage clicks that then highlight to them that they can set up a restock alert. Restock alerts increase our immediate sales massively because as soon as the product lands in stock, they are all snapped up again. Particularly important whilst stock is intermittent, yet in high demand.
On the product page, when a size is "out of stock" it is currently greyed out and therefore customers will be less inclined to click on it to trigger the "notification" CTA.
I'm not entirely sure what my suggestion for alternatives would be at this stage but I'm mulling it over.

'Notify' on Out of stock product isn't very clear if there are multiple SKUs

If a product is completely out of stock then you first have to select a SKU from the dropdown for the 'add' (to basket) button to change to 'Notify'. However, because the SKU dropdown list shows all the SKUs as out of stock then I think it may be unlikely that a customer would choose a SKU in order for the button to change from Add->Notify.
This isn't a problem if there's only one SKU - the page shows 'Notify' straight away

It appears that the order in the drop down has now changed. The items in the matrix that are in stock now appear at the top by default and no longer in size order. This is even less conducive to customers realising they can request a 'notify'. The out of stock items are geyed out and say 'out of stock' so most people wouldn't even click on them to see the 'notify' option. I think this wording needs to be 'notify' rather than 'out of stock' or even 'coming soon'.

Helen Gadbury: Unfortunately 'coming soon' won't work as it could be completed sold out by the supplier - but in that case, the 'notify' option would be pointless...it is tricky here due to whether something is actually in stock or now discontinued/end of life

Steven Sproat: If something is totally sold out or discontinued we turn off that ‘variant’ in the matrix parent so it doesn’t even appear in the drop down. Collecting back in stock for those is a waste and rather customer chooses an item which we will be getting at some point in the future.

https://citruslime.canny.io/ecommerce-website/p/out-of-stock-sizes-to-be-presented-differently-to-encourage-more-restock-alert-s I've just seen this suggestion and I've probably replicated the same if not very similar post so pinning it here too to collate.

Agree - if all sku's are out of stock then notify should show as the default - however a prompt to select a sku will also be needed if notify is clicked (as that information is required to notify the correct item).
