Page not found on URLs with / at the end

We have various companies working with us to improve the customer experience. sometimes when they link to category pages either the system they are using or they manually add a / to the end of the URL which causes a page not found
e.g.
vs
obviously, we correct these and tell them the proper formatting, but would be useful if the system might be able to automatically redirect to the non '/' not sure if there's other SEO benefits or issues with this?

General pages end with a '/' too for some reason - and without it, you get a 404. Seems odd - ending in a / implies a directory to me

Oddly I was discussing this with James yesterday, I agree we ought to sort this out.
Out of interest can you use the new redirect manager to work around the issue? I'd be interested for you to give that a try.
