Cashier Login but easier and quicker... so we actually use it.

We're not using this feature because there's already quite a lot of clicking to process a sale and the thought of adding more steps leaves our shop floor staff break out in a cold sweat. The extra steps with remembering more than one till ID (our staff work in multiple stores)... we're just not using this important feature, missing out on tracking who's made which sale and who is to be crowned employee of the month!
Could we combine the buttons of sales rep feature with the security of the cashier login.
I.e. click your name, bang in your pin and proceed with the sale? Please.
What does everyone else do??

Hi everyone,
We've listented to feedback here and we've got some changes coming for Quick Switch.
We’re adding an optional way to Quick Switch using a single 4-digit 'Quick Code' instead of a Cashier Number and PIN. An Administrator can switch this on for the whole group on the Configuration page, and can then view or generate a Quick Code for each user on the Users page.
We’re also adding a “Print IDs” option on the Users page, which creates a PDF of scannable 2D barcodes or QR codes, so staff can wear one on a lanyard or badge and switch by scanning. This will work either for the new 'Quick Codes' option or for the existing Cashier Number + PIN combination.
This work is in progress and, pending successful testing, we’re targeting a release in mid-November.
Thank you for contributing your feedback to help us improve Cloud POS.

Retailers who are keen to track cashiers implement quick switch with a pin number which means you need to enter your pin before each transaction. Thats an open in the backoffice, it seems to work well for some our high volume retailers but it does mean more key strokes per sale :-(, but you do then get accurate reporting as the business manager :-)
I'm not sure how we could make switching easier, I am open to ideas.
The sales rep functionality is separate and designed to allow a rep to sell an item and get commission, some of our customers have sales people on the shop floor who are not always those who process the sale at the till so we could not repurpose that generally. You might be able to use this as an easier alternative to swapping cashiers between sales.

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime We have just tried using this and honestly given up. The issue is you have to ask a member of staff to remember a pin AND at least an ID number, their cashier number. Its too messy. Email isnt an option for till cashiers as they dont need/have email and takes an age to enter.
As the cashier ID it says CANNOT be modified, why cant the first name field be used as a sign in option, as then for staff to remember their name(!) whatever format we put it in that field, and their unique pin number is much, much easier. At the moment after discussing with staff I was being asked where the cashier IDs could be written down for them to remember, its just not intuitive in a busy retail environment and especially the busiest at key times - the till.
Allowing me to enter for example "scott" or "scotth" and my pin would be intuitive and quick.

Scott Hargrave Or having a barcode or qr code staff could keep on a lanyard... granted they may lose it but we do have the ability with CL to print sticky labels and barcodes already for gift vouchers.
so if we could print a sticky label and stick it on a blank card/fob that staff could then keep on their person.
Having the ability to see who is doing what could really help zero on on mistakes, heavy discounting, identify training and so on. It could also help us reward harder working staff.

Chris yepp that would work, might even see if I can manually create something along those lines for now to fill in the cashier ID.

Scott Hargrave yeah good point. Let me know how you get on. There's plenty of free barcode generators online. Then just need to print via the label printer and stick it on your old blockbuster card!!

The same, as soon as someone misses unchecking 'remember me', they are auto logged in, and they are automatically the user when you select a till to use. There's no option to choose a different user.
A simpler name and pin number that less stressful with a customer stood over them would be so much better.
Having to completely log out of Cloud POS to change user is not great and time consuming.
A suggestion that 'No Sale' should close the transaction, not just clear the details, and take you to the 'switch user' button. We can't see a way of getting to the 'switch user' without completing a transaction.

Gemma Packham There is a keyboard shortcut to Switch cashier.
On Windows: CTRL+ ALT + Y
On Mac: CTRL + SHIFT + Y
Thanks for the comment. It's good to hear we're all on the same page

Chris thanks for this info, I wasn't aware of the keyboard shortcuts

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime I am fond of a shortcut but sadly we don't use this one as we can't use the login/switch user in its current form. For the above reasons.

We do the same as you - not use it despite wanting to, for exactly the same reasons! Be good to streamline it possibly as you suggest
