Feature Request - Automating Item Descriptions and Compliance for Northern Ireland Shipments

As per the Windsor Framework, from 31st March 2025, shipments from Great Britain to Northern Ireland will require specific details to be provided for customs. These details include:
• A goods description for each item.
• Weight (by item), value (by item), and country of origin must be specified for each item.
• Optional: Goods categorisation by item.
Currently, it has been suggested that we manually enter the item descriptions into the Customs Contents field for Northern Ireland shipments using the Courier Integration Module in Citrus Lime. However, this manual process is time-consuming and inefficient, particularly during busy periods. Additionally, it does not fully meet the new requirements outlined by Royal Mail, as it does not automatically capture or populate the weight, value, or country of origin for each item.
Requested Solution:
We would like to request a feature improvement to automate the compliance process for shipments to Northern Ireland. Specifically, we would like to see the following:
- Auto-population of the 'Customs Contents' field:
• Automatically populate the Customs Contents field with the item description (as currently implemented).
• Add weight (by item), value (by item), and country of origin to the Customs Contents field, ensuring full compliance with the Windsor Framework.
- Auto-check for shipments to Northern Ireland:
The system should recognise shipments to Northern Ireland (and Guernsey/Jersey) and automatically prompt us to verify that all required fields (description, weight, value, country of origin) are populated correctly before proceeding.
- Optional Goods Categorisation:
• Add an optional field to allow for goods categorisation by item, which is required in some cases but not mandatory.
Benefits:
• Compliance: Ensures shipments to Northern Ireland fully meet the Royal Mail’s Windsor Framework requirements.
• Efficiency: Saves time by automating the population of mandatory fields.
• Accuracy: Reduces the risk of human error when entering required details manually.
• Scalability: Improves processing speed during busy periods, avoiding delays.
We would greatly appreciate it if this feature could be prioritised, as the regulations come into effect on 31st March 2025.
Thank you for considering this request. We look forward to your response and would be happy to discuss any further details if needed.

Chris K I'd just like to thank you for the quality of the write up here, I cannot tell you how much A) more viable developments are when we have this level of detail B) that we are much more likely to get the development correct first time out of the gate.
Thank you

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your feedback on this.
We're working on what the requirements in our system will be for the Windsor Framework - but based on what you've listed above I'm confident we will be able to make the changes required.
The automatic population of these fields has already been implemented where these values are required for other shipments.
I'll keep this post open so we can keep you updated with progress, but I just wanted to assure you that we are acting on this.
Thanks,
Suzy
