Clicking on an item and navigating away from a job

When you click on an item in the workshop job, it navigates to the item page in the same window and then you can't get back to the workshop job. Other scenarios open the item in a new window or in an overlayed screen. It's annoying and time consuming to have to keep navigating back to the job if you don't remember to right click and open the item in a new window.

Thank you Kevin, Jason, Matt and everyone for your votes and comments here. We're definitely looking at changing this behaviour for you and will report back with a firmer timeline in the next few weeks.
For context, if helpful: we're in the process of reviewing ALL Workshop-related feedback at the moment, and will have a summary of our planned changes ready to share soon.

I understand the frustrations here.
Would it be helpful if:
1) If you have unsaved notes it warns you if you are attempting to navigate away?
2) If the link had both the option to open on the current tab and and icon to open in the new tab

Neil McQuillan - CEO Citrus-Lime Thanks Neil, if it would autosave in the workshop module would be great. Also a warning if you were trying to navigate away would be fine. Also if you went away from writing notes to Items or elsewhere if it opened in a different tab would be OK too. It is important to realise also, we can write notes then get called away from the screen with a customer, then someone else comes to the computer and by the time you get back, your notes may or may not be saved. So an autosave would be the best option, but your other options would be an improvement. Thanks.

Jason Rogers I feel your pain, I use a product called Jira every day which 'sort of' autosaves, and when I loose content it makes me rage that happens a lot.
Emma is collating a stack of workshop 2.0 feedback and we'll be on with making improvements.

I agree. If you have written notes and not pressed save, then go to items to look at more details for a part, you cannot go back to the workshop job and you lose all your notes. Then have to write all the notes again.

My mechanics say the same thing. Even if it was just consistent across all parts of the system, we could then train our staff on what to do, but as Kevin said it is different in different parts of the system.
