Hi all,
We're planning on making some improvements to the use of icons/colours in the workshop to better show the state & status of the jobs.
We're aiming for this to be available in the July Cloud POS release (3rd July).
Thanks,
Suzy

What we were thinking was that there was functionality added that allowed the workshop owner to allocate fill colours to various conditions. Eg a basic service is one colour, a medium service a 2nd colour, a full service a 3rd etc. but not limited to this.
Some of the below comments have specified particular end result requirement, all slightly different. This highlights the benefit of implementing the change to be as user flexible as possible.

We expect this to move to planned nest week we need to hammer out a few more details on the colours as you can see from the my comments to Tom

We need to choose the colors (out of 12 different shades), and the classifications.
I’ve been using color codes for:
- open ticket
- waiting for parts
- warranty work
- pending appt (bike is not in shop)
- finished
- paid and done/picked up out of shop
- Estimate
- Consignment sales tickets
- sales lead
- waiting (hardly used)

Tom Martin: I've spent a bit of time thinking about this and looking into it.
We have three colours we currently use:
-- Grey - The workshop job is not completed and is not overdue
-- Green - The workshop work is completed
-- Red - The workshop job is not completed and is overdue
We need have icons for various other things which can be going on
-- Awaiting Parts - A little box icon
-- On Hold - An exclamation icon
-- The bike is checked in - A house icon
-- Paid and picked up in the POS - A green dollar icon
As such if I change the colour based on the second list it would override the first one. I'll see if I can make a suggestion.
-- Awaiting Parts - A little box icon
Brown
-- On Hold - An exclamation icon
Orange
-- The bike is checked in - A house icon -
Stays as is
-- Paid and picked up in the POS - A green dollar icon -
Stays as is

Neil McQuillan: I see some confusion happening if there isn’t a difference in color coding between a checked in bike And a bike that is paid and picked up. And a paid and picked up bike should drop from the workshop calendar entirely. Lightspeed archives it but can be pulled up via customer card
The current color coding differentiates between open tickets that are needing done and overdue. I generally don’t care to flag that as a different color- the date or an icon take care of that.
I used red for warranty work.

Neil McQuillan: excited to see this happen but just wanted to bring to your attention, the common problem of colour blindness. 3 out of 5 of us here have varying degrees of colour blindness so I would ask/suggest that when selecting the colours to perhaps get a number of opinions from some people in your office. Anything too subtle will likely be difficult to differentiate on a computer screen. Somebody mentioned 12 different shades which I honestly doubt I could pick out on a screen. Colours such as White, Grey, green, yellow, red, blue I would suggest would be a good start. I think brown could be an issue for many. I know you won’t be able to please everybody but I just thought it best to throw this out there before making changes.

Tom Martin: Once a bike is picked up and paid there is a dollar sign on the job on the calendar.
I think we also plan to make the icons coloured so they stand out more, with each icon having its own colour.

Info: We are currently planning to make the following changes.
-- Awaiting Parts - A little box icon Brown
-- On Hold - An exclamation icon Orange
And for the icon colours I've suggested above, we could try and use this palette in nice strong colour choices.
White, green, yellow, red, blue

I'm keen on this idea, and I think we will write the code. Are there any other things we want to add. I have :
Orange for Awaiting Parts
Another free colour for Overdue Collection

Neil McQuillan: On Hold would be good ie awaiting callback

Neil McQuillan: Any way you could colour code to add something as a priority for the mechanics to pick up (E.g someone who has a ride event or has to pick up asap due to a hospital shift et..) we sometimes need to prioritise the queue of jobs.

It would also be good to highlight completed jobs that are overdue for collection too.

Please rollout colour coding of the workshop diary. Would make it so much easier to visualise what is complete/pending/outstanding.

I requested colour coding or flagging on the workshop module about 8 years ago, and the arrival of it would be worth the wait :)
