Items Linked to SIM updating descriptions

I would more comfortable if the items linked to SIM didn't have their descriptions changed automatically. We routinely change item descriptions so it's easier for staff to find and also so it make some sense on the customer receipts etc. I'm struggling to see the need to have descriptions change automatically. It wouldn't be so bad if the descriptions made sense but most of the time it's nonsense anyway. I see the benefit of pricing updates but I don't want it to mess up my descriptions. I generally switch off this feature when I remember but of course, if you import something from SIM then this feature is automatically enabled.

Suzy Weightman is there any progress on this? The initial post by Highland Bikes Admin outlined the reason this is an issue back in February 2020 and it remains a frustration. There really is no need for SIM to update the descriptions, having to switch off SIM on a product just to retain an amended human readable decription totally undermines the function of SIM in the first place.
For example;
AV9 24" Tubes 24 1
That's the imported description, would like to tell me what it might be?

Suzy Weightman If there is no intention to change this then I would very much like to hear a valid reason why not as it's very frustrating.

I have an item listed as a box of 25 which of course are not retailed in boxes of of 25; they are sold individually but because of the SIM updates, I am unable to amend it on the customers receipt. - BRBX B05S Pads&spring Resin BX25 Black pair

Would love it if we could select what data fields are updated via SIM. Even overwriting pricing is not desired in some cases. Worst case this could be a global setting, but would be great if it could be more granular and work by category or even just by item.

Suzy Weightman Any update on the progress on this please?

In addition to my previous comment regarding SIM updating edited descriptions, I think the 'Season' field should also be removed from the auto update.
There are many examples where a product, including bikes (eg Tern) are carrying a sku through unchanged over multiple seasons.
This means if the supplier doesn't updates their product feed from the product launch year to the show the current model year (which they generally don't) the field is constantly overwritten to present the item as being from an 'outdated' season.

This is a frustrating feature.
Quite simply if you've taken the time for whatever reason to amend the description after the SIM import I can't see any scenario when it would be useful for this to be reverted back again automatically.
The field just needs to be removed from the SIM synchronisation.

Are we talking about the same thing here, with item descriptions on receipts that don't reflect what the customer has actually purchased?

We would also love to have the option to stop these automated updates rather than having to run wizards to de-link the products.

Hi all,
This is something we'd be able to make configurable - i.e. update Prices & Description, or just update Prices.
I am going to wait for this to accrue some more votes before we look to action the changes.
Thanks,
Suzy

This is still ongoing. Just had SIM change one of our Item descriptions from 'Black' to 'Schwarz'. Can somebody tell me why this is helpful?

Highland Bikes Admin makes the description more accurate if you sell on Amazon?
Seriously though, there is no benefit.

Couldn't agree more! The only thing that should update is the RRP.
