Need Ability to Correct a Serial Number or Customer Name After The Sale Concludes

On several occasions, an incorrect serial number has been recorded or a name is left off a transaction. When I find these errors, I need to the ability to go in a correct the mistake. Additionally, when a battery is warrantied, I need to remove the serial number associated with the person's record and put in the new serial, so that I can always see what serial number they have. Yes, I could just make a note in the customer account, but that doesn't correct the actual backend data, which means that when I run the serial number report, it's not accurate. Or if I run the Who Bought What Report, its not accurate. As the owner of the business, I need the authority and ability to correct the backend data when I find mistakes.

We've had a similar request to be able to edit serial numbers after a sale https://citruslime.canny.io/citrus-lime-backoffice/p/ability-to-edit-serial-numbers-after-sale which I think we will do - this would allow you to edit the serial record itself.
For a return/warranty, my advice would be to return the original item and exchange for the new serial (doing this in one transaction means you don't need to tender any values) - this means you have the log in the system of the exchange/swap taking place and then you can delete the original serial number.
