Allow Inactive Items to be Masters of a Colour Group

To help smooth out pre-season set up, it would be great if we have the ability to make inactive items the master of a new colour group prior to season launch. That way any "carry over" items can be added to the new season colour group instead of the other way around, which has the ability to cause new data to be overwritten with the old parent data.

I am revisiting this as I am still finding this feature frustrating when it could be made so much more useful.
Let's say we have two products P1 and P2
P1 is my current season products P2 is a product I need to set up for the coming season that I don't want to be active on the website but what to get it ready. So I add it to the colour group Were p! in the master colour.
That copies all the data over need, I can now make P2 inactive but keep it in the colour group which from what I can see achieves the results I want to see:
P2 is now in the colour group ready for next season and not visible on product listing pages or on detail pages in the colour picker section, awesome!
If you go into P1 product card on Cloud MT you can edit the colour group as normal and see both active and inactive items in the colour group, still good. However, if you go into P2's product card you can see what colour group it is in but you can't open the master colour from here.
The ideal outcome is for us to be able to add a pre-season item to an existing colour group
It copies over the data without making the new item active and that we are able to manage any products in a colour group regardless of whether it is active or inactive on the website.
While still ensuring that the new products that are inactive in a colour group are not visible on the site until it is made active.
This brings me to a new point which will be on a separate ticket (Bulk Wizard for activating and deactivating products)

Will Condie thats a very good one, its so frustrating to have to 2-step this, and then keep an eye on stock that comes in so you can then add it to the colour group. Definately a time saver and makes the colour group option more powerful too - as it will be used more.

Hi Will Condie,
As it stands, a change here wouldn't be on our road-map, unless it was a large issue for a good majority of our customers, as it's a fairly sizeable change to how the colour picker functionality works.
I'm keen to understand if this is the case.
and I appreciate this is a real-world frustration for you, which is why I am not ruling this out.W

Ben Kippax: Think this relates to my other post
Can we have an update on this?
Thanks Bud!
Ben Kippax
Will Condie: I Will, as I said previously, the stance on this would be that unless we see an overwhelming majority of retailers experiencing this as a widespread issue, the change wouldn't fall into our current development roadmap. I will definitely check up on this issue and see if our stance has changed though.
Best,
Ben

Ben Kippax:
Hey Bud,
How many would CL consider to be a lot? There are tickets with less up votes that are planned or Under review.
This one has 15 and the similar post has 14 and that's more than most.
And no offence to other retailers, but we do spend more time on the system and work 6 months ahead of time in most cases, I plane to increase this to 9 months ahead of time.
This is a ket part of set up that needs to be smoothed out.
Peace!

Will Condie: I completely understand where you're coming from. That'll be much more to do with the size of the undertaking.
Some cannys have simple changes involved to achieve so the risk is much smaller, therefore we can consider them lower impact.
With this piece of work, the impact would be huge; effectively ripping apart a big chunk of the code and validation in both the Ecom platform and the Cloud MT app. I'm definitely not saying that this isn't worthwhile, however, which is why I am going to follow-up on whether our stance has changed.

Ben Kippax:
Fully understand mate.
I thought that might be the case.
This could be a game changer, and free up so much set up time as going back in once everything is set up and live is quite counter productive.
I'll leave it with you my good man.
