Allow Creation of Baskets and Emailing to customers to complete payment

A standard feature on the out of the box products I work with, it would be good to be able to send a link to a basket for the customer to complete the checkout process, and make payment.
This is standard on Shopify, Bigcommerce and Magento, Wordpress and Prestashop via plugin.
This has a commercial value in that valuable time can be saved responding to quote requests, and to product info requests with highly converting direct basket links. There is plenty of evidence out there to show a signifcant uplift in conversion when a link is enclosed with a response to a product query such as compatibility.

All this is completed and will now go for testing. It's accessed by pressing Shift-S in the basket screen. It will be in the release notes for the next release, we're moving towards a Cloud POS release so the next ecommerce release will be in July.

Just a thought, depending on how you are planning to position the creation of the link, this same tech might suit a "wishlist" type functionality for the front end. Where a customer can add a load of items and share to a friend of family member.
Ben Kippax
Excellent idea Ben! I did make sure to write the code in a way which wasn't prescriptive to a particular feature, so to that end, it could in fact be deployed as a wishlist-style feature in the future.
Funnily enough, I did casually mention in passing to Neil, that this functionality has the potential to be quite flexible and could be expanded upon in the future.
I feel like this is best suited as it's own Canny. As it's your suggestion (and I don't want to tread on your toes) would you be kind enough to create a new Canny suggestion with some outlined required and desired features/ideas for everyone to discuss please?
B
Ben
Ben Kippax: Just went to create it as per your suggestion and this one popped up: https://citruslime.canny.io/ecommerce-website/p/wishlist-functionality
Do you think I should create another one or leave this? It kind of covers both.
Ben Kippax
Ben: I think that we should roll with the existing Canny but I'll edit the description now. Feel free to expand upon what has already been discussed.

Ben Kippax: Yes this would be good - I think I raised a ticket for "favouriting" too but wish list was probably a better description!

All I've just been asked in the office what on earth Skunkworks is! It's an off the books project by a group of developers creating something from a good idea. #sorryforthegeek
Thanks again to Ben Kippax for working late into yesterday evening on this one.

Hi all,
Progress is coming along nicely on this.
It's awaiting some final branding, technical and QA checks but overall the functionality is in place ready for our next Ecommerce release (late June).
We'll provide a how-to article with this feature, so it can be effectively used by your teams.

Ben Kippax: Nice, this is really useful for us and means we can finally switch Shopify off too, saving a little ££ as thats all we use it for now.

Scott: Great news! :)

Ben Kippax: When will it be live?
Ben Kippax
Hi Mail Order: in the e-commerce release this week. You’ll receive an email once we release it. We’re just wrapping up our QA process on the changes right now.

I've had a further play around today once I'd completed my planned work.
What I'd managed originally was to effectively 'share' a basket between two users, which is of course useless as when the Customer Service agent is creating a basket for the next user, she/he is altering the one that has been sent to the customer.
I've written some code this evening which creates a copy of the customer service agents basket and creates a URL which can be supplied to the end customer, this is a copy at a point in time and can be picked up and edited by the customer, and edited/amended from that point forth.
Currently this 'copying' process is triggered from the Chrome console, I'll have a chat about getting a user interface on it in the coming days.
This is looking increasingly possible without a massive development effort on our side. If so we'll make this a platform feature which is included in everyones existing license fees rather than a module you need to pay for :-)
Neil McQuillan
We're going to put a user interface in to allow a customer service agent to create a basket link. Ben Kippax is working on that as I type, it has both of us quite excited - not sure why perhaps we have lots of complex long term stuff on and its nice to work on a small feature which will help our customers.
I'll update this once I have some screenshots.
Neil McQuillan
I’ve now seen a working user interface I shall share a Loom in the coming days

I'm just a nerd who likes writing code ... but also I've been working hard on Google Pay and it's nice to have a bit of a break and work on something new for a couple of hours.

Great idea, couple of questions
Do you envisage the function allowing for custom pricing, for example we could have a long conversation with a customer to discuss a suitable products and decide to offer them an additional discount for buying a bundle of some sort?
Neil McQuillan
Matt Ives: We would not allow custom pricing. Could you add a coupon code to any email/message you send with the basket link?
M
Matt Ives
Neil McQuillan: That would work

I have made a start on this, more code is going to be required than I thought, but I'm confident this is a cool feature so I'll see if I can get a working prototype together in the coming days :-)

Neil McQuillan: I'm definitely keen on this one, especially as quotations that can convert to sales.

Ben Saw this post and thought it might interest you!

Ben
Neil McQuillan: It does! We would introduce this to our CS if it was rolled out.
Neil McQuillan
Ben: That's another vote for it then, I think this one might be a skunkworks project for me.
Neil McQuillan
Scott,
Try this in both incognito mode and when you are logged into the site as another user. We
might
be able to leverage basket abandonment code here. Just a wildcard idea which might or might not come to nothing.
It ought to retrieve a basket with a set of Scott Superguide Carbons in size 27.5.

Neil McQuillan: that just worked so if we can create a url like that easily then it’s a winner.
