At the checkout you can "opt in" or... for anyone else who does not explicitly opt in they get opted in anyway, they may think they're opting out by not opting in but they are not... 🤔 as they'll soon find out when they're hit by a rewards email or an unfortunately timed newsletter. Prompting outrage 🤬 and threats of legal action (this has happened twice so far), more often than not just a request to remove all their data... which is a chore!
So although from a legal standpoint maybe we're good?! We're definitely not good in maintaining a positive user experience for us (CL'ers) or our customers on this point at least, as instead we're deterring them from returning... To them, if they even remember, it's like giving them a choice, ignoring the answer and becoming and trying to force a sale onto them regardless.
Richard explains the faff far better than I even understood here: https://citruslime.canny.io/citrus-lime-backoffice/p/gdpr-right-to-erasure
Probably takes me 15min or more to remove people from all these places, incl SalesFire.
Please offer an Opt out of marketing newsletters and Rewards reminders
or
Change opt in to "Opt in for reward points and deals"
Other negative review own goals:
  • Cookies policy... not being able to deny non essential cookies
  • DPD ship to shop... being under click and collect causing confusing being not free! Hopefully fixed in the new checkout
